Family Science Night
The 17th Annual Edgewood College Family Science Night will be held on Tuesday, April 16th!
Family Science Night, also referred to as the Science Spring Spectacular, has been wowing families with children of all ages for 16 years running, and this year will be no exception. Held in the beautiful Sonderegger Science Center on the Edgewood campus, this year’s event will feature more than 30 hands-on, science based projects/stations for kids (and parents) to explore. And best of all – this is a completely FREE event. The event will run from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16th Parking is free on the Edgewood Campus. Spanish interpreters will be available and the Sonderegger Science Center is completely handicap accessible.
Each year, Family Science continues to grow. This year, we expect 300+ attendees to attend. Many families who participate are from the Madison area, but we’ve heard of families driving in from as far away as Janesville and Portage. Projects & science stations have included topics such as fermentation (think Kombucha), fun with liquid nitrogen (shattering roses and marshmallows), learning how your eyes work, fossil exploration and a much, much more. From biology to physics – Family Science Night has something for everyone.
Dr. Amy Schiebel, the Director of the Office for Science Outreach, incepted this event in 2002 to bring science in a really accessible and exciting way to our community. “Once people participate in our event and explore first-hand the wonders and magic of science, no matter what age they are, they’re hooked. They become supporters of science education and want more of it” said Dr. Schiebel.
